Do I really need to introduce XKCD? As a science and computer nerd, reading this webcomic by American author Randall Munroe on a regular basis is a must! In fact, a lot of my knowledge in science fields that are not my majors comes from this comic. However, it seems that most of my colleagues and students are yet to young to know it.
So what is it about? XKCD stands for ... nothing! It is just four random letters! In 2005 Randall started a blog with some doodles from his school notebooks.
Three years later, he can make a living from selling books and T-shirts.
His drawing style is still very minimalistic. The protagonists are stick figures, mostly
of scientists investigating weird and absurd phenomena arising from comical misunderstandings. There are some reoccurring characters:
Cueball (no hair, hat or other features), Megan (femal scientist, black hair), Black Hat Guy (evil hacker type), to name some.
It is not clear if this characters always represent the same person.
Occasionally Randall posts interactive comics or even video games that you can spend hours exploring, all designed in his minimalist drawing style.
If you don't understand the meaning of the cartoons, don't panic! That's quite normal. So normal, in fact, that there's a whole wiki dedicated to explaining XKCD.

There is no Oscar for the best comic, there is no Nobel Prize for the best cartoon.
Gary Larson would have earned both. However, he received a very special honour for the cartoon above.
It turned out that the spiky tail of the Stegosaurus did not yet have a name - so it was named Thagmoizer...

Gary Larson hätte beides verdient. Für obenstehenden Cartoon hat er jedoch eine ganz besondere Auszeichnung erhalten.
Es stellte sich heraus, dass der stachelige Schwanz des Stegosaurus noch keinen Namen hatte - also wurde er Thagmoizer getauft...

Ich glaube mich erinnern zu können, dass dies mal ein FM4-Linktip war. Wie auch immer ich das Spiel entdeckte, als Hardcore-Point-n-Click-Nerd konnte ich nicht anders, als das Spiel sofort zu installieren.
I seem to remember that this was once an FM4 link tip. No matter how I discovered the game, as a hardcore point-n-click nerd, I couldn't help but install the game immediately.
Dieses Spiel setzt ganz auf Retro-Pixel-Art und ist auch sonst sehr minimalistisch gestaltet. So gibt es kaum Animationen, nur Bilder und Dialoge. (Wie kann dieses Spiel 1,4 GB Speicher fressen?). Es hilft also, wenn man ein Hardcore-Point-n-Click-Fan ist!
This game relies entirely on retro pixel art and has a very minimalist design. There are hardly any animations, just pictures and dialogues. (How can this game eat up 1.4 GB of memory?). So it helps if you're a hardcore point-n-click fan!
Der Humor ist ganz auf meiner Linie und die Geschichten sind spannend. Es gibt auch viele Referenzen auf andere Computerspiele (Bigfoot!). Der Nachfolger "The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark" steht um nichts nach.
The humour is completely up my street and the stories are exciting. There are also lots of references to other computer games (Bigfoot!). The sequel ‘The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark’ is every bit as good.
Probleme auf die ich gestoßen bin: Manchmal will Mc Queen die Items nicht beim ersten Mal mitnehmen, später geht's aber dann. Manche Items sind schwer zu finden.
Problems I have encountered: Sometimes McQueen doesn't want to take the items the first time, but then it works later. Some items are hard to find.
